The corridors seem to get longer and longer the more you walk. You have absolutely no idea where you’re going, and haven’t had an inkling for some time.

You were part of a tour group that was taking a tour through a tiny part of a real Egyptian pyramid. Your tour guides were very adamant about making sure to stay together as a group. “This place is the world’s darkest, coldest, and most confusing maze” they warned you. “If you get lost in here, you’re never coming out alive!”

So what did you do? You got lost, of course!

You’ve been stuck in here for so long now that you don’t even remember how you got lost in the first place, nor do you have any idea how long you’ve been lost for. What you do know is that you’re exhausted, parched, starving, freezing, and miserable. You’re so exhausted that all you want to do is just curl up on the floor and fall asleep, not even caring whether or not you would wake up the next morning.

Every time you tried to do this, however, you would suddenly get an awful chill. It’s way colder in here than you expected, so cold that every time you try to sleep you begin to panic, and something in the back of your mind convinces you that if you fall asleep here, you’ll freeze to death. You become so panicked and frigid that you have no choice but to keep yourself moving, praying that you’ll find an exit someday.

To pass the time, you’ve been fruitlessly trying to get your phone to work, but of course today was the one day you forgot to charge it. You know for a fact that it won’t work no matter how many times you try it, but there’s nothing else you can do besides cry and think about your fate.

You know you’re supposed to be paying attention to where you’re going, but your surroundings fill you with nothing but a sense of hopelessness. Every single corridor looks exactly the same, while somehow feeling smaller and smaller at the same time. Every single corner you turn gives you an even stronger sense of déjà vu, and your hope has been diminishing ten times more each second.

You feel like you’re going crazy. You can really feel it. After only talking to yourself for so long, your mind seems to involuntarily wander to completely detached, depressing, or morbid thoughts.

Why are you even still trying? your mind screams at you. It’s impossible. If there were a way out of here, you would have found it by now. You’re just going in circles endlessly. Every corner is exactly the same! Go right! Go left! Keep going straight! It doesn’t matter! You’re never getting out! Never! Never! Just give up and let yourself die! Why are you still torturing yourself!?

…A door!!!

You snap to attention. At the end of the long corridor before you, there stand blueish-gray, wall-to-wall double doors. They’re covered in all sorts of patterns and hieroglyphs, and they’re so incredibly detailed that you find it hard to look away. Maybe it’s just weird to see something different after hours upon hours of every wall looking exactly the same.

Welcoming the change of scenery, you walk up to it. You’re not exactly sure how to open it, or if you even can, but if there’s even a slight chance that it leads to a way out, you’ll take that chance without any hesitation.

Upon closer examination, you’re able to make out more specific images drawn on the doors. You have no idea what they mean, obviously, but you’re curious nonetheless. On the left side of the door, there is what appears to be a giant group of snakes, with a large one that appears to be the leader showing off its fangs. On the right side, there is what looks like a giant alligator standing on two legs. Front and center is a giant picture of what is probably the pharaoh, with his golden crown...helmet...thing, and surrounded by lots of gold.

You reach out and tentatively touch the door, though you’re not sure why you’re so afraid to touch it. It’s cold and dusty, and just by feeling its density you can tell you can’t push it open on your own. Your heart sinks, but you still push on the door in a futile attempt to get it open. It doesn’t even budge. It’s so dense that you wonder if it’s just a wall after all.

Despite that, you keep pushing on it, more or less just to look for an excuse to not have to keep walking through the corridors. Like before, it doesn’t feel like you’re making any headway at all. Each push makes your heart sink deeper and deeper, but you continue to pointlessly push on the door despite having no real reason to.

You try to just focus on pushing the door, but it doesn’t take long for your mind to start wandering again. It’s hopeless! it yells at you. Why are you still trying? Do you have any idea how heavy that door is? It probably isn’t even a door anyway! Even if it were a door, it wouldn’t lead outside, it would probably just lead to more hallways! You’ll never find a way out of here, no matter how much you try! Never! Never Nev…

Ack!

A sharp pain suddenly courses through your ankle. You crumple to the floor, and turn around just in time to see a huge python slither off into the darkness. Looking at your ankle, you begin to panic as you see how huge the bite is. That python’s mouth was almost as big as your foot!

Before you have a chance to react, the pain suddenly seems to spread through your bloodstream, down to your toes and up your leg. You start panicking, as you realize this must be the venom seeping through your body.

You know you need to do something about it, and quick, but you frustratingly find yourself freezing up. You can’t help but just stare at the bite in shock. It’s turning redder and redder by the second. Not only that, but the redness is spreading… and fast! It only takes a few seconds for the redness to travel up your legs, and down to your feet, which are oddly turning black instead of red.

As the feeling of panic continues to grow, you reach out and touch your discolored skin, only to find it’s surprisingly rough and dry. As you continue to feel it, your heart stops as you realize that your skin is now covered in scales! Looking down in panic, you watch as the red scales continue to spread all up your leg, while the black scales continue to spread down your feet.

As the scales spread down your feet, however, something even weirder happens. You can literally see your foot start to… disappear. As the scales spread across it, it seems to shrink into your legs, which have suddenly become much, much bulkier than they used to be. As they reach your toes, they too seem to shrink away, however three of the toenails stay behind, becoming sharper and stronger until they have morphed into three white claw-toes.

Looking back at your leg, not only has it become much more red and bulky, it too is also beginning to shrink. Your entire fat, red leg begins to shrink to a fraction of the length it used to be, becoming short and stubby. Strangely, you find yourself feeling more confused than scared looking at your unusual new appendage. Unfortunately, you don’t have much time to study it as you notice the scales continuing to spread up your body. While the red scales continue to spread up your sides and back, a portion of white scales on your inner thigh begins to spread across to your belly.

As you observe the scales spreading, still feeling strangely composed despite the circumstances, you watch them spread across your lower body before spreading across to your other leg, which seems to be undergoing a very similar transformation to your bitten leg.

You don’t have much time to focus on the leg, however, as your rear end and back suddenly explode in a burst of pain. You had quickly gotten used to the pain that your legs were going through, but this was much, much worse. You grit your teeth as you feel something pushing its way out of your lower half, and it takes a long time to do so. You close your eyes and groan in pain, willing it to be over sooner.

Then, all of a sudden, the pain dies down, and you have a sigh of relief. Curious, you look at your backside, and are surprised to see a huge, thick tail covered in red and black stripes. You experiment with trying to move it, finding it surprisingly easy to do so. Moving your tail feels exactly the same as moving your legs, albeit with slightly less dexterity.

As you continue to experiment with moving your tail around, it dawns on you how calm you are. All of your panic from the snake bite seems to have washed away. In fact, your transformation now almost seems comforting to you. You can’t help but admit that you feel a lot more powerful now that your legs are so strong.

Speaking of muscle, you can feel your torso beginning to bulk out, and you realize that while you were busy focusing on your tail, the scales have spread across the entirety of your middle section. Your frontside is now completely covered in white scales, with red scales running up your sides. There are also two pairs of black stripes beginning at the edge of your white belly, one pair stretching around to your back, the other stopping abruptly at your shoulders.

Once again, you suddenly feel something pushing out of your backside, though not nearly as painful as growing an extra limb. You look around at your back this time, eager to get a look at what’s happening to you next. Your entire backside is becoming completely covered in layer upon layer of black scales, much thicker and tougher than the rest of your body. You then feel a burst of childlike excitement as you watch sharp, menacing spikes protrude from the edges of the layers of scales. Now nobody will dare to attack you from behind! Nobody’s going to catch you off-guard!

...You’re not sure where that thought came from, or who would be trying to catch you off guard, but you’re too focused on your changing body to dwell on that.

You can feel the scales continuing to spread from your shoulders down to your arms, and you look down excitedly to observe their change. You’re confused when your arms seem to slim down, rather than bulk up to match the rest of your body. Your arms still seem to be shrinking like your legs did, the only difference being that your elbows have black scale-stripes on them. When the red scales reach your hands, the bones inside of them shift considerably. While four of your fingers shrink away into your slim arms, the remaining six grow much longer, each with a sharp, white claw on the end. The fingers’ positions on your hands all shift into triangle shapes.

You clasp all of your fingers together and flex your thin, stubby arms, quickly realizing that these limbs have a much wider array of mobility compared to your bulky legs and tail. This arm dexterity will make it super easy to snatch up delicious prey! Once they’re within your grasp, there’s no way they can escape!

...Again, you’re not sure where that thought came from, but the more you think about it, the more right it sounds. Your body seems to be perfectly suited for a predator, and you find yourself quickly taking comfort in thoughts of hunting small animals. The puny, old you would have been disturbed by these thoughts, but now, the taste of fresh meat has never seemed more tantalizing!

Your thoughts are interrupted as you suddenly see and feel your nose and mouth pushing out in front of your face. While you were lost in thought, the red scales spread across your entire head, and you only now notice how much sharper your eyesight has become. As your new muzzle pushes farther and farther out of your face, much farther than you had expected, you can also feel your sense of smell becoming sharper as two sharp protrusions extend from the end of your snout. You can feel your teeth shifting considerably, sharpening and growing to the point where the teeth that were once your molars now stretch outside of your mouth, glistening to others as a clear warning of what you’re capable of.

After your teeth are finished, you can feel the pain that you had already grown numb to begin to fade, giving you full control to test out your new body with no limits! You’re starving, and eager to get started hunting, but as you look around at your surroundings and realize you’re still in the pyramid, you admit that that’s going to be more difficult than you’d anticipated.

As you look around, wondering where you could find prey, your eyes are drawn to the gigantic doors behind you. On the left of the door is a large group of snakes, and you can vaguely recall seeing a python of some kind slither away into the dark corridors. On the right of the door is what is very clearly a depiction of you, in all your menacing glory. You can’t help but giddily smile at how ferocious you look. Seeing the picture of the pharaoh on the center of the door, you’re suddenly drawn to all the treasures that surround him. Seeing as how both you and the python are also depicted on the door, could it be that those treasures are meant for you?

You become even more excited at the thought of the pharaoh’s tomb and the treasures within, all just beyond this door! You can’t get the thought of them out of your head. In fact, you can’t think about anything else except the treasures! All your thoughts about eating and escaping from the tomb have all but faded away. All you can think about is all that gold, right within your grasp!

You build up all your strength, take a running start and smash through the huge doors with relative ease… only to find more dark corridors!

You look around, confused, and start to wonder if this was all just a trick. That thought is quickly pushed out of your mind, however, as it once again begins to fill up with thoughts of all the treasures! You reason that they must be close by, otherwise there would be no point to painting it on the door!

With that final thought, you disappear into the darkness, running aimlessly through the hallways, your judgment permanently clouded by the thought of that sweet, sweet treasure.
Yep, I'm still alive. Sorry that it's only been 4,022 years since the last story, but I just couldn't find the motivation or inspiration to write. Don't worry though, this isn't going to be my last story before I go back to being dead! I have one more story planned, though I probably won't have nearly as much time to work on this one as my other one, considering I might be starting a new job soon. Rest assured, though, I WILL get it done!

I suppose I should talk about THIS story, lol. It's good, it's a little bit different from how I originally envisioned it, though that's not necessarily a bad thing. Critique is appreciated, as always!

Having a Krookodile tail would feel cool!
